Richard Walker, Director

Richard has been on the faculty of Texas Christian University, University of Arkansas Little Rock and the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts. He has also taught and adjudicated competitions for Dance Masters of America. He has taught at workshops in St. Louis, Detroit, Branson, Gulfport, Colorado Springs, Lubbock, Oklahoma City, Texarkana, Atlanta and Arkadelphia. (Henderson State University). For many years, he was on the Faculty of the Joel Ruminer Summer Dance Camps.

Mr. Walker earned his M.F.A. in Dance from Southern Methodist University and his B.A. in Theater Design and Lighting from Temple University. He began his training in Philadelphia at the age of 13 with the School of the Pennsylvania Ballet. While still in Philadelphia he performed 6 seasons with the LaSalle Summer Musical Theater, a summer stock company.

After graduating from S.M.U. he spent 4 years in New York where his studies included Harkness House, The Graham School and work with Louis Falco (choreographer for the film “Fame”) as well as performances with the the Louis Falco Dance Company at City Center. He also directed his own performing ensemble, Richard Walker and Dancers, with performances at The Theater of the Open Eye, The Cunningham Studio and Larry Richardson’s Dance Gallery. After New York, Richard returned to DFW area and co-founded the Southwest Dance Collective. He also choreographed for Dancers Unlimited and performed with and choreographed for Ballet Concerto.
